2019 International Visual Arts Education Seminar had Grand Opening in Jinhua Polytechnic

On the moring of May.8th, Jinhua Polytechnic hosted, and the Art School, the arts education research center of East China Normal University, and  Yangtz River Delta Art Education and Research Alliance undertook the grand opening of the 2019 International Visual Arts Education Seminar.

Teresa Torres de Eça, the president of International Art Education Association, Rita Owen, professor from the University of British Columbia (in Canada), Xavier Luccioni, professor from University of Paris 8 (in France) and president of La Corse Architecture Association, Giedt Angell, the director of PhD program and art theory professor of art education department of University of Fine Arts, Münster, Yamamoto Asahi,professor of Naruto University of Education (in Japan) and representative of Art and Science Education Council, Christopher Murphy, associate professor from University of North Texas, Zhang Jin, vice president of China Education Institute, Art Education Council, Qian Chuxi, professor, PhD program advisor, and acting director of art education research center from East China Normal University, Hu Zhengming, party secretary of Jinhua Polytechnic, Chen Hairong, vice president, Hu Yan, party member and chair of publicity, relevant officials, and more than 160 visual art education as well as fine arts education and theory scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Canada, Australia, and Japan attended the opening—The Capacity and Service of Visual Art Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence. The opening was narrated by vice president of Jinhua Polytechnic, Cheng Jun.  

Hu Zhengming, the party secretary of Jinhua Polytechnic, gave welcoming address.



On behalf of Jinhua Polytechnic, Hu Zhengming gave a warm welcome to all the officials and guests that came to the opening ceremony. He introduced the school from four perspectives: history, scale, influence, and specialties. He pointed out that Jinhua Polytechnic has been paying great attention to art education and development, been dedicated to contents building of the discipline, and improving the quality of talent raising, the social service aspect of the discipline, and deep integration of input and output. Hu Zhengming believed that this seminar gripped the new social trend and search for the improvement, practice, and innovation of visual art education required by the new era, which not only created a great environment for academic exchange, but also provided us with a high-starting-point, multidisciplinary platform. He said that this was the first time that Jinhua Polytechnic hosted the international visual arts education seminar and hoped that we could use this opportunity and this platform to engage in multi-perspective discussions and close interactions, share and search advanced visual arts education ideas and research products in different regions, promote the improvement of visual arts education across the globe together, and push for the application of visual arts in the teaching of higher education.

The president of International Art Education Association Teresa Eça gave a speech.  



On behalf of International Art Education Association, Teresa Eça thanked the host—Jinhua Polytechnic—and organizers—Jinhua Polytechnic Art School, East China Normal University Education Center, Yangtze River Delta Art Education Research Alliance. She also gave a warm welcome to the guests, experts, and scholars that came to the opening. She genuinely hoped that everyone would have something to gain from the seminar. She expressed that this seminar provided an exchange and interactive platform for art educators all over the world. The aim of the seminar was to think from different perspectives and discuss visual arts education against the backdrop of the AI (artificial intelligence) era; meanwhile, the seminar also built a platform between International Art Education Association and China Art Education Board and kept expanding and creating new alliances, which would promote the co-development of Chinese and global visual art education.

In Zhang Jin’s address, he said that as globalization and informationalization developed rapidly, and as the era of Artificial Intelligence approached, there was an integration between digital technology and visual art education; cloud technology and sharing made unimaginable changes to art classes. Against the backdrop of the AI era, Jinhua Polytechnic’s art education faced new tasks—how to structure future art education as a discipline in the AI era, how to form new models of art education, how to train innovative talents suitable for future development—are the general directions for the development of art education in Jinhua Polytechnic. We should first make sure that we all know the mission and responsibilities as art education researchers in this new era, have the right orientation, broaden the exchanges and interactions between countries and regions, increase dialogues and understandings, and reach co-development.

After the opening, Hu Jun, the associate professor from Hangzhou Normal University, College of Fine Arts, chair of art education department, and dean of Yiyouxue Research College narrated the speech session of the seminar. Teresa Torres de Eça, the president of International Art Education Association, Qian Chuxi, professor, PhD program advisor, and acting director of art education research center from East China Normal University, Yamamoto Asahi,professor of Naruto University of Education (in Japan) and representative of Art and Science Education Council, and  Zhang Jian, the dean of the Art School of Jinhua Polytechnic and professor discussed their thinking and research regarding the capacity and service of visual art education in the AI era from their respective disciplines.   

It was reported that this seminar lasted for two days. It had four parallel forums, featuring guest reports, topic speeches, paper publishing, round table discussion, and symposium. In the seminar, people shared innovative theory and practice regarding visual art education from different countries and regions, and engaged in discussions regarding the present and future of visual art education in the AIT era from different perspectives and angles, which promoted the development of visual art education globally.
